Mea-Josam Pro-Plus Overview
Mea has recently developed a pre-sloped trench drain product line from a unique, “space age” composite material that they feel will bring about a new generation of drainage products. The Pro-Plus trench drain products are manufactured using glass-fiber reinforced polyester (GRP) pressed from sheet molding compound (SMC), which is a composite of polyester resin, mineral fillers and glass-fiber mats. SMC is a tried and tested GRP material and is a compelling choice because of its extremely high strength and dimensional stability.
“Space-Age” Composite Material
SMC/GRP materials are used wherever extreme conditions prevail and special degrees of durability and rigidity are required. They have revolutionized the design of many industrial products and are used in applications such as rotor blades for helicopters, bodywork for automobiles, yachts and aircrafts. The Pro-Plus product line is the first pre-sloped trench drain system in the world to utilize this technology.
SMC/GRP has advantages over all other trench drain materials. The SMC/GRP material used for making Pro-Plus is extremely rigid and displays minimal longitudinal expansion over a wide temperature range. In comparison to polymer concrete, it is 1.5 times stronger and has 40% less expansion. Similar to thermoplastic polymers, SMC/GRP is lightweight. However, unlike thermoplastics, it cannot be reshaped and remains dimensionally stable once heated compression hardens the material into the final product.
Pro-Plus Product Features
The Pro-Plus channel system is available in three interior widths of 4”, 8” and 12”. Channel lengths are available in 1 meter (39.4”) and ½ meter (19.7”) sections. The grating options with the Pro-Plus products are diverse. You have a selection of stainless steel, galvanized steel, ductile iron and polymer grating materials. In fact, the grates used in the Pro-Plus system are interchangeable with the Meadrain systems. Grates using the STARFIX securing system or the standard bolt down method can be used with each channel.
The Pro-Plus has unique corner and T channel connection features that make designing complex drainage systems easier. All system channels are manufactured with side knock-outs. A side outlet adapter connects to the channel at the knock-out location which creates a seamless fits junction. Form a channel side attachment site by using one side connector adapters. Each Pro-Plus system also has standard end caps and end outlets. The systems also have installation brackets which are used to connect adjacent channels while providing an adjustable suspension point during installation. Catch basins are also available.
